The Hope-Merrill House, a vintage Victorian turn-of-the century inn welcomes travelers in grand style to the California wine country. The Hope-Merrill House is a striking example of the 19th Century Eastlake Stick Style Victorian architecture popular between 1870 and 1885. The home is noted for its major architectural, cultural and historical significance and is now listed in Sonoma County Landmarks Register. J. P. Merrill and his wife, Martha, settled in Geyserville over a hundred years ago and J. P. became active as a land developer. The North end of town, where the home is situated, is identified on old land maps as "the Merrill addition to Geyserville."
County Homes magazine featured the Hope-Merrill House in August, 1985 and states the restoration of the Hope's "has yielded a grand Victorian lady poised amid Northern California vineyards." A highlight of the interior is the original Lincrusta-Walton wainscoting found in the downstairs entrance and upstairs hallway. ("Lincrusta," originally composed of wood fibers and various chemicals, became the rage in the 1880's when a decorator got a novel idea of embossing floor linoleum and putting it on walls). The house, built entirely of redwood, has the original quarter-sawn oak graining on all doors and woodwork, the work of master craftsmen of the period.
The stunning silk-screened wallpapers of designer Bruce Bradbury lighten the house and a variety of bold, striking motifs accent each room.
The dining room is where guests gather for a 5 course country breakfast featuring juice, homemade bread and pastries, fresh local fruits, egg dishes, jams and jellies.

This is a cozy room with a queen size bed, covered by a lace bedspread. There is a high, curtained headboard. There is a ceiling fan and a sink in the corner. The colors are beige, light mauve, and light blue. There are two windows with one facing the side hedges and one facing the backyard garden and pool. There is a private bathroom with a Clawfoot tub and shower directly across from the room. The hall outside the room leads to an upstairs deck, which is about 2 feet away from Bachelor Button Room!  The Peacock Room-1st floor $190.00
The colors are a deep burgundy. There is a large, high window and a queen size bed and lovely dark furniture. The bathroom inside the room has marble accents and a deep Jacuzzi tub for two. This room has a queen size wooden sleigh bed. The loveseat, chairs and tables are wicker. The wallpaper has a briar rose theme. There is a marble sink in the corner of the room, and a bathroom with a stall shower. There's a ceiling fan and an alcove with three windows facing the hedges. The colors are mainly mauve and beige.  The Carpenter Gothic Room-2nd floor $172.00
This room has a seashell theme in colors of peach, gold and light blue. The bed is queen size. There are two windows, one faces the side of the house, the other faces front, with a view of the hedges and distant hills. The bathroom in the room is split into two sections. There is a queen-size bed. There are 9 lovely wallpaper and border designs leading up to a coffered ceiling. There's an alcove with three windows next to the gas fireplace which has a view of the pool and gardens. There are French doors which lead into the bathroom which features a double headed shower for two. The colors of the room are mainly mauve and beige with tints of light green. Right next to the Bradbury, the Vineyard View has a queen size bed and gas fireplace with a back window which faces the pool and gardens. There is an alcove with three windows facing the vineyard and gazebo. There's a ceiling fan, and the ceiling is coffered. The wallpaper has leaf and berry designs. This double sized room has a 4-poster, cherry wood, queen-size bed resting on a lovely rug. There is an alcove with two sitting chairs. Opposite there is a large sitting area with a couch and two chairs facing the fireplace. The colors are beige, gold, rose, with tints of navy blue. The wallpaper is extravagant, with 9 different designs accenting the high ceiling. There are lace curtains and two doors which lead to either side of the house. One leads to the pool, and the other to the patio and gazebo. The room has a view of the pool and gardens. The room has its own bathroom inside with a stall shower.
